NBA: Jason Williams waived by Magic

Jason Williams, a 12-year NBA veteran point guard, was waived by the Orlando Magic earlier today.
-
Williams has career averages of 10.6 points per game and 5.9 assists per game in 777 total
games, but this season, he only played in 16 games averaging 2.1 points a game and 1.5 assists.

Williams had been frustrated by lack of playing time. Other point guards on the team, Jameer Nelson, Gilbert Arenas, and Chris Duhon, had been stealing all his minutes and he couldn't handle not playing.

My take on this is that the Magic didn't have to waive him. They could have at least tried to trade him. I'm sure there are teams that could use him. The New York Knicks have expressed interest in a back-up point guard and Williams would be perfect for that job.

Williams is known for his flashy, entertaining moves he did with the Sacramento Kings and winning a championship with the Miami Heat in 2006.

Hopefully another NBA team will sign him, but if J-Will never plays in the league again, he will be missed. (I know I'll miss him, he's one of my favorite basketball players.)

UPDATE (January 27, 2011): Jason Williams will not be retiring and hopes to sign with another NBA team.
