NBA: Jason Williams waived by Magic

Jason Williams, a 12-year NBA veteran point guard, was waived by the Orlando Magic earlier today.
-
Williams has career averages of 10.6 points per game and 5.9 assists per game in 777 total
games, but this season, he only played in 16 games averaging 2.1 points a game and 1.5 assists.

Williams had been frustrated by lack of playing time. Other point guards on the team, Jameer Nelson, Gilbert Arenas, and Chris Duhon, had been stealing all his minutes and he couldn't handle not playing.

My take on this is that the Magic didn't have to waive him. They could have at least tried to trade him. I'm sure there are teams that could use him. The New York Knicks have expressed interest in a back-up point guard and Williams would be perfect for that job.

Williams is known for his flashy, entertaining moves he did with the Sacramento Kings and winning a championship with the Miami Heat in 2006.

Hopefully another NBA team will sign him, but if J-Will never plays in the league again, he will be missed. (I know I'll miss him, he's one of my favorite basketball players.)

UPDATE (January 27, 2011): Jason Williams will not be retiring and hopes to sign with another NBA team.

NBA: 2010-2011 All Free Agent Team

There is a lot of talent in the NBA this season. Blake Griffin's taking the league by storm as a rookie, Kobe's still holdin' it down, LeBron, D-Wade, and Bosh are chasing a title in Miami......you get the point.

But there are many talented players who aren't currently employed by the NBA right now. Here is a hypothetical 15-man roster that would make great 31st NBA team.

Center:
Starter: Earl Barron, age 29. Averaged 11.7 points and 11 rebounds with the Knicks in 09-10.
Back-Up: Steven Hunter, age 29. 8-year NBA veteran with career averages of 4.5 points and 3.2 rebounds.
3rd String: Steven Hill, age 25. Never has been given much of a shot in the league. Has a lot of potential.

Power Forward:
Starter: Rasheed Wallace, age 36. Averaged 9 points and 4 rebounds with Celtics in 09-10.
Back-Up: Antoine Walker, age 34. Looking to make comeback. NBA Champion and 3-time All-Star.
3rd String: Sean Williams, age 24. Played 3 seasons with Nets (2007-2010). Has a lot of potential.

Small Forward:

Starter: Gerald Green, age 24. Averaged 10 points with the Celtics in 06-07. Won 2007 dunk contest. In the prime of his career.
Back-Up: Jarvis Hayes, age 29. Put up 7.8 points and 2.4 rebounds with the Nets in 09-10.
3rd String: Michael Finley, age 37. Old, but would provide good veteran depth and wisdom.

Shooting Guard:

Starter: Larry Hughes, age 31. Averaged 8.1 points with Bobcats in 09-10. Helped them make the playoffs for the 1st time.
Back-Up: Rashad McCants, age 26. In the prime of his career. Averaged 14 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds with the T-Wolves in 07-08.
3rd String: Jerry Stackhouse, age 36. 2-time NBA All-Star. Played 7 games with the Heat this season.

Point Guard:
Starter: Allen Iverson, age 35. 2001 MVP, 11-time All-Star, Future Hall of Famer. Has a good season or two left in him.
Back-Up: Rafer Alston, age 34. Streetball legend that's still got it.
3rd String: Smush Parker, age 29. Played 2 solid seasons with the Lakers (2005-2007)

This could be a championship caliber team.
